Wolverhampton Wanderers skipper Ruben Neves has lifted the lid on his style of captaincy. The Portuguese midfielder was made the new club captain following the departure of Conor Coady to Everton on loan in the summer. Neves had previously been vice-captain at Molineux. Following his move from Porto in 2017, the 25-year-old quickly established himself in the team. He also emerged as a leader on and off the pitch, though not necessarily through the most obvious means.
Ruben Neves said: “I’m not the kind of captain who wants to shout or speak too much. I’m really proud. It’s been a pleasure to do it for such a special club for me. It’s a responsibility I have and I’m really happy with it. It’s a great squad and a great group, it’s an easy group to be a captain of, I’m really enjoying it and I’m doing my best. I prefer to [lead] by example, by giving everything in training sessions, giving my best every day, so the rest can watch me train and play and know I’m giving 100 per cent, so they can follow me, that’s my way to lead. Of course, I speak a lot in games, because of my position, it’s really important to communicate.”
