Andros Townsend is confident that he will be at one of the safest workplaces in the country when Crystal Palace players return to training. The Eagles are expected to return to training this week, with Premier League clubs meeting to discuss the next steps over the possible resumption of top-flight football, following the Bundesliga resuming this week. Townsend has given his thoughts on the prospect of returning to training ahead of a possible resumption in June, with some reports suggesting that games could be played from mid-June onwards.

Townsend said: “I think that would be the best case scenario. It may seem ambitious, but if we can get back to training tomorrow and all goes well, I don’t see why we can’t be back playing by the end of June. We are lucky at Crystal Palace, the doctor, the manager, the chairman, it has all been transparent with Zoom calls and it has all been laid out on the table. I’m in no doubt that when I am returning to the training ground, I will be returning to one of the safest workplaces in the country. You drive into the training ground and someone swabs the back of your throat and your nose, and you get the test results back. Whether you agree with it or not, we are going to get tested regularly, I think twice a week, so there isn’t much room for an outbreak to spread to the Premier League, in my eyes.”
