Wolves talisman Ruben Neves wants to join Barcelona rather than Manchester United. That’s according to Spanish outlet Sport who claim the 25-year-old is keen to play Champions League football – with United only able to offer the second-tier Europa League. Though Neves has been vocal about his affection for Wolves, the midfielder gave an open-ended response when recently asked about his future.
Ruben Neves said: “The only thing I can tell you at the moment is that everyone knows what football is about, what our lives are about. Our career is really short and we need to take the opportunities we have. All of us have dreams and we need to live those dreams in a small space of time. Let’s see what happens, I cannot say too much about it.”
Wolves fans made their feelings clear with chants calling for Neves to stay during the club’s final home game of the season against Norwich. After the game, Bruno Lage said he agreed with the supporters and hopes the midfielder will remain at Molineux
Bruno lage said: “It’s so hard to find these top men and top players and Ruben is one of them. He worked hard since the first day and did a good season with us. But we know about the market and when these kinds of players are in a good way, big clubs can appear and pay. The club lost some players before and you never know what can happen. Last year it was the same, everyone talked about Ruben and nothing appeared. I want the best for Ruben and I want the best for the club. If Ruben stays, I will be happy.”
Neves has been linked with United and Liverpool virtually ever since he arrived in the Premier League. He has made more than 200 appearances in the Old Gold, having joined them as a 20-year-old when they were in the Championship.
