Nottingham Forest was set to make a last-ditch bid for premier league survival against Sheffield United at the City Ground with Nigel Clough restored to his striking role. Forest must beat United to retain any chance of staying up and manager Brian Clough clearly felt that his son Nigel was going to be most effective upfront.
The England international had been playing at the back for a few weeks for Forest but the outgoing Forest manager said it was time for the experiment to be shelved.
Brian Clough said “There’s no point in putting my son in the back four when we have got to win a game.”
Lee Glover was also set to drop out of the starting line up and that enabled Clough to resume his partnership with Robert Rosario.
