Tottenham’s 4-0 victory over Aston Villa included a number of standout performances from Antonio Conte’s players. It was also a good overall team performance, which has kept them in fourth place, going into their final seven games of the season. Two of the most standout performances at Villa Park were Son and Hugo Lloris, making an impact at both ends of the field.  After the game, Son was asked about his own performance and contributions but was also asked about Lloris’ impact and he was quick to praise the French international.

Son Heung Min said: “We showed a really good personality, great character, especially after the first half. What can I say? He [Lloris] saved us today. We scored goals but if Hugo wasn’t there we were probably 3-1 down or 4-1. Hugo saved us in a tough time, in difficult times. When we need him, he was turning like a superman, like a captain. I would say Hugo saved us today.”

The World Cup winner has been one of Tottenham’s most consistent players this season, making crucial saves that have helped them secure wins and stopped games ending in heavier defeats. The 35-year-old also praised his side’s performance and what the game was like for him.

Hugo Lloris said: “It was a busy first half for myself but I enjoy the moment with the team because we suffered together and it was important to stay in the game and after the storm, we took control of the game. You need to give credit to Aston Villa players because they created a lot and they were very aggressive, very direct into the box, very offensive. They play at a high intensity and at some moments in the first half we could not match and that’s the only thing we need to correct for the end of the season.”

The Tottenham captain has made 85 saves in 31 league appearances so far this season, making 20 high claims and keeping 12 clean sheets. It was a perfect Saturday for Spurs, who watched Arsenal and Man United lose their games before the match at Villa Park kicked off, although Lloris says all of Tottenham’s focus has to stay on themselves.

Hugo Lloris said: “We were aware about the other results because at this moment of the season it’s very important to stay focused on ourselves and keep our mind very cold. Arsenal do have a game in hand over the Lilywhites, but Conte’s side need to focus on getting maximum points from their own games and hoping fixtures for teams around them fall in their favour.
