Brendan Rodgers is trying to focus on the positives of Papy Mendy’s form offsetting the loss of Wilfred Ndidi after the Nigerian midfielder was ruled out for the season. Rodgers said at his press conference on Thursday, previewing the trip to Manchester United
Brendan Rodgers said: “Wilfred Ndidi unfortunately will be out for the season, which is a shame for us. He’s been a brilliant player for me in my time here. He’s picked up a nasty injury and he has had to have surgery. He’ll recover through until June. On the other side, Papy Mendy has come in. He had been unfortunate. We thought he was leaving in the summer so wasn’t in the squad and hardly played He’s done great for Senegal and come back in. He’s always been a great professional and so we gain a player in him and he’s done very well since coming back into the squad.”
The only issue City have is in Europe, where Mendy is not registered, so Rodgers will have to find a player for the base of the midfield when PSV visit next week. In his press conference, Rodgers declared Wesley Fofana, Jonny Evans, and Marc Albrighton as fit to play, but said Luke Thomas would not be available for the trip to Old Trafford, with Jamie Vardy still being assessed.
