Leicester City midfielder Youri Tielemans has said that he is not worried about the speculation over his future amid links with a move away from the King Power Stadium. The Belgian has just over one year remaining on his current deal with the club and is yet to put pen to paper on a new contract despite being in talks for over a year. Some reports suggested that the midfielder had turned down a new contract, but that has been denied by City boss Brendan Rodgers. Tielemans is due to wear the captain’s armband for Belgium on Saturday as they take on Ireland in Dublin in an international friendly. Ahead of that game, he was again questioned about his future.
Youri Tielemans said: “I don’t worry about it. I want to get the most out of myself this season and finish as high as possible with the team.”
Tielemans has been with City since January 2019, initially joining on loan from Monaco before completing a permanent move the following summer. The likes of Liverpool, Manchester United and Arsenal have been credited with an interest in the player this summer. But the City man has hinted that he could stay at the King Power Stadium beyond this season.
Youri Tielemans added: “Of course I want to play in the Champions League, like any footballer. Am I ready for a European top club? I’m ready to get the best out of my career. We’ll see what happens next summer, or the summer after that.”
The comments come after Brendan Rodgers hinted earlier this month that Tielemans seeing out his contract could be a possibility.
Brendan Rodgers said: “He is a joy to work with and however long that is. If it is until the end of his contract or beyond that, he will give everything to the club.”
