Manager Roy Hodgson has admitted the club are ‘running out of time’ after the 4-0 away loss to Wolves in the Premier League. Speaking to the press after the defeat, Hodgson accepted that those three goals virtually put the game out of sight.
Roy Hodgson said: “Really, at halftime, we were staring down the barrel of a gun because we conceded the goals, the three goals. They were obviously going to play with great confidence, with their tails up. We had to make certain we dug in and tried to show some sort of pride and at least salvage something from the game – which might just have been in the second half we didn’t concede many further goals and were able to hold them at bay.”
He then spoke of how the dressing room had been left ‘very sad’ by the result but wanted to credit the efforts made by his players stating they could not be accused of giving up. He singled out captain Moussa Sissoko for praise,
Roy Hodgson said: “I thought Moussa Sissoko, and everything he did today, was fantastic. And if we can get some of that spirit, some of that determination, some of that desire, some of that anxiety that we need to feel. The thing is, these players need to feel anxiety, because we’re running out of time.”
He also refused to be too critical of goalkeeper Foster, who made a huge error for the third goal of the game,
Roy Hodgson added: “When you’re a goalkeeper, you’re unfortunately either a hero or zero to some extent, you know, there’s not often an awful lot in between. He’s been a hero for us once or twice in games. And today you’re going to have to accept that this was the other side of the coin.”
The Hornets remain three points from safety but now have just ten games left to save their season.
