Tottenham Hotspur hero Steven Bergwijn appears likely to stay in north London after Ajax moved onto alternative transfer targets. In any case, current Tottenham boss Antonio Conte has hinted that the winger is firmly in his plans. Speaking after the dramatic victory at the King Power Stadium,
Antonio Conte said: “I think I spoke about Steven in the past and I said he was an important player and he has specific characteristics for this team. Nobody has these types of characteristics. He’s very good one versus one, he’s good technically, he can beat a man, he’s a striker. If he is in good physical condition and he is fit, then for me, he’s an important choice I can make in the starting 11 or in the game.”
Bergwijn still has three-and-a-half years left to run on his current contract in north London having scored seven goals in 65 appearances since his arrival – two of those coming in a dramatic couple of minutes in the east Midlands.
