Brentford boss Thomas Frank claimed it was a “miracle” Manchester United weren’t 2-0 down at half-time against his side. United were thankful to David de Gea for keeping them in the game at the Brentford Community Stadium and they went in goalless at the break after he made several saves.
Thomas Frank said: “I know goals change the momentum of games but if you look at the overall performance for 90 minutes there can only be one winner and that’s us. They only deserve a draw. I’m unbelievably proud of the team and the players. The way we absolutely destroyed Manchester United in the first half is very impressive. We were aggressive, front foot, wanting to play positively and take the ball forward. It’s a miracle they were not 2-0 down at half-time, De Gea did a fine job, he was by far the best Manchester United player today. They scored the first chance they had. That changed the momentum of the game, the 2-0 goal we need to avoid to stay in the game.”
Frank also described United as “unbelievably lucky”, despite Rangnick’s team dominating for much of the second half and scoring three eye-catching goals.
Thomas Frank said: “We are the smallest club in the Premier League, Manchester United the biggest, we destroyed them in the first half, they didn’t have a sniff. The way we smashed them in the first half was fantastic, so proud of my team. They are unbelievably lucky. I know all the crap about taking chances. They changed the system against little Brentford. They didn’t have a chance before their first goal. That’s why they pay £72m for Sancho who wasn’t in the team.”
