David Moyes has stated the club have received no offers this January transfer window for any of the current first-team squad. Speaking a week into the window, the Hammers manager revealed that despite the lack of transfer activity the club have been busy behind the scenes tying up players to long-term deals.
David Moyes said: “We’ve had no offers from anyone in what you’d call our first-team squad, we’ve had enquiries for some of our young players. We’ve had nothing for what you’d class as our first team.”
According to reports in France from L’Equipe, Newcastle are keen to sign Issa Diop from West Ham but no bid has been made and one would not be welcome from the Hammers, who are determined to keep hold of the centre-back. It is not only prospective incomings and outgoings the manager has to think about, with nine West Ham players out of contract in the summer Moyes has some tough decisions to make. One of those players is on-loan goalkeeper Alphonse Areola, the Frenchman has had to play second fiddle to the in-form Fabianski but the manager claimed Areola was well aware of the situation when he signed for the club.
David Moyes said: “Alphonse has done well when he’s played for us, we’ve been quite pleased with him. Lukasz in the main has had an excellent season as well. Phonse had an idea of what the situation was going to be when he came in, he has done well in the cup competitions and we’ve had no reason not to think about playing him but again it is the FA Cup and I might make a decision on Lukasz.”
