Manchester City caretaker boss Rodolfo Borrell says Cole Palmer is on the right track to follow Phil Foden into the first team on a regular basis.
Rodolfo Borrell said: “He is a huge talent, there’s no secret. Everybody has been able to see tonight. At the end of the day, he is training with us on a daily basis. It is difficult sometimes to give him more minutes because you know the level of competition in this squad so it is not easy but it is about being patient, still working hard and when he performs to use this kind of opportunity to show the talent that he is and show that in a consistent basis. But obviously, huge huge quality and great potential and great for us as a club and him as a player.”
Borrell also gave Palmer some advice to make the next step and become a regular in the first team, the breakthrough Phil Foden started to make at a similar age.
Rodolfo Borell said: “First, keep training on a daily basis and keep working hard. Sometimes it is not easy because when you don’t get the minutes to sustain that in a long period of time it is not easy but at the same time it is a huge advantage that he can train on a daily basis with such fantastic players because training with the best and playing against the best … again what he has to do is when he has the opportunity, also when he drops to play for the second team and if he suddenly goes with national team with England (under-21s) he just needs to keep performing. And you guys (the media) need make questions about him because of his good performances. This is what happened with Phil. They are completely different players and we cannot compare one to each other – Phil is already established in our first team and in the England national team. Cole is younger but is on a good path and it is good as a football club and good for him as a player. he needs to keep working hard, developing and taking his opportunities.”
