Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has urged his team to follow the example set by Leicester City to get one over on Chelsea this weekend. Ahead of what could be a crucial game in the Premier League title race between Liverpool and Chelsea, Klopp’s side are expected to be without a number of players due to injury and positive Covid tests.

Jurgen Klopp said: “Leicester gave us a good example. When it’s really intense, you have some problems, all these kind of things, if you put a proper shift in there’s always a chance in football. That’s what we will try as well. I don’t know what the reaction was (from outside) but I can say the day after the game, I still felt the defeat. That’s not bad, it’s not something you want to have, but it’s something we don’t want to get used to and we’re not used to it. As a human being you want to show a reaction with your team-mates and that’s what we will try.”

The defeat against City left Liverpool nine points adrift of Man City at the top of the table going into the weekend, leading to some suggestion that the title race is already over. However, Klopp says that his side must do better in order to keep putting pressure on Man City, starting vs Chelsea.

Jurgen Klopp added: “We weren’t happy with our last game and we have to show a reaction. It would be nice if we could play better than we did then. We have to show we can do much better. It’s nothing to do with [Manchester] City, we can’t catch them without playing football. We play football, try to get as many points as possible, and we will see. I’m pretty positive about the mentality of my boys because I know them long enough. But when even if you play a top, top, top game there’s no guarantee you can win at Chelsea, but it would give us a better chance.”
