Daniel Farke
Leeds United is grappling with a significant injury crisis as they approach the crucial end of the season. Key players, including Anton Stach and Joe Rodon, are sidelined with ankle injuries, while Daniel James is dealing with an adductor issue. The situation is further compounded by the absence of Noah Okafor and Jaka Bijol from training sessions due to back and unspecified injuries, respectively. Gabriel Gudmundsson remains out with a groin problem, adding to manager Daniel Farke’s challenges in maintaining squad depth.
Daniel Farke said: “It’s difficult to say – it’s a ligament injury in the ankle. Also same for Joe Rodon, normally, you would say it’s not realistic for both of them that they will be able to help us in April and we would just have them back in May. It’s crunch time of the season. Of course, you want to have especially these players back as soon as possible. We will try, step by step, also day by day, to improve the situation. And if they would be able to feature already at some point in April, it would be a bonus. Right now, at the moment, realistically, we have to say, we’ll probably just see them back in May.”
Farke added: “[By] finding some other solutions. Of course, we’ll miss Anton, there’s no doubt about this. He was impressive for us during the season. He’s quite flexible, and also is capable to do both – his physicality and his capability to win balls high up on the pitch and also in a deeper position. His strength with set pieces, his strengths also in the air and also his experience, his maturity. We will definitely miss this. I would prefer to have him available. But if someone is missing and could be even sometimes a key player, then it’s not like to dwell on that and to suffer. It’s more or less for different players [it’s the] chance to shine.”
The absence of Stach, who has been pivotal in Leeds United’s campaign for survival, is particularly concerning. His performances have not gone unnoticed, earning him a call-up to the German national team by Julian Nagelsmann after a four-year hiatus. Stach’s versatility, physical presence, and proficiency in set pieces have been crucial for Leeds, and his absence will undoubtedly be felt.
With the season entering its decisive phase, Farke is tasked with finding alternative strategies to compensate for the missing players. The injuries come at a time when Leeds is striving to secure their Premier League status, making the manager’s role even more challenging. As the team navigates this period, the opportunity arises for other squad members to step up and make a significant impact.
