Mauricio Pochettino
Mauricio Pochettino, currently managing the United States men’s national team, is poised to become the frontrunner for the managerial position at Tottenham Hotspur. His contract with the US team is set to conclude after the World Cup, making him a prime candidate to replace Thomas Frank permanently. Tottenham has been grappling with managerial instability, with Igor Tudor’s interim tenure proving particularly challenging as he searches for his first victory after four consecutive defeats.
Mauricio Pochettino said: “There are many rumors, almost always negative, so as long as they’re pleasant. In the end, especially because of my past at those clubs, when things aren’t going well, people tend to fall back on emotions and say, ‘Well, with Mauricio we played good football,’ or whatever it may be. But no. We’re focused on the World Cup, on the United States. My contract runs until after the World Cup, so after that we’ll see what might happen. Open to everything, right?”
Since Pochettino’s departure, Tottenham has seen a succession of managers, including Antonio Conte, Nuno Espirito Santo, Ange Postecoglou, and Thomas Frank, all of whom were dismissed in the aftermath. The current caretaker manager, Igor Tudor, is under scrutiny as the club faces a relegation battle. His recent performance against Atletico Madrid in the Champions League, where Spurs suffered a 5-2 defeat after trailing 4-0 within the first 22 minutes, has intensified the pressure.
Pochettino’s potential return to Tottenham could increase the pressure on Tudor, who is yet to secure a win. Despite the setbacks, Tudor remains focused on the Premier League, acknowledging its importance for the club’s future.
Igor Tudor said: “We need to do our best in terms that we need to grow, as you said also. Because our first aim is the Premier League – this needs to be said publicly, this is a normal thing – this is something extra. But that doesn’t mean that we don’t want to pass and don’t want to go to the next round.”
Pochettino’s managerial journey since leaving Spurs has been eventful, with a brief stint at Paris Saint-Germain, where he secured the Ligue 1 title in 2022, followed by a year at Chelsea. His potential availability could be a turning point for Tottenham as they seek stability and success in the Premier League.
