Bournemouth’s manager, Andoni Iraola, has expressed his satisfaction with the defensive improvements shown by Junior Kroupi. The French forward has been deployed in the number 10 role in recent matches, showcasing his adaptability and understanding of the team’s tactical demands. Kroupi’s development comes at a crucial time, as the Cherries navigate the absence of key players and the departure of Antoine Semenyo.
Andoni Iraola said: “I’m very pleased with the development of Junior Kroupi. Very pleased. Not in the offensive side, I know he can score goals and I will not judge him because of the goals but I think he’s starting to understand what we need from him in the different positions he’s playing. I think he has the physical level to meet the demands but he has to also tactically be very smart because the 10 is not an easy position in our system and he’s doing really well. It’s true that in some games it’s going to be more difficult for him in games where they put more players inside and probably you have three midfielders and then sometimes even a fourth one because they put someone inside. But he’s doing everything from his side to try to implement those things to his game. I think he could also play outside, with the [France] under 21s, he plays outside, so maybe we can try also with him outside. But it’s true that now without Enes [Unal], it’s something that you have to think very well because you start both also probably you don’t have the subs know in their positions. You have to think how we are going to finish the game. So yes, things that we have to think very well on and take decisions in the different games.”
Iraola’s comments reflect the strategic considerations facing Bournemouth as they adapt to current squad changes. Junior Kroupi’s versatility has become an asset, particularly in light of Enes Unal’s injury and Semenyo’s exit. While Kroupi has been playing behind the main striker in recent games, Iraola is evaluating his potential in other roles, including as a winger or a second striker.
Andoni Iraola said: “I think Junior is a striker. I think if you ask me what’s his position, I think he’s a striker. He has played with the Under 21s with France, a little bit outside, more on the left, on the right, still trying to find positions closer to the box. But he’s a striker for me, his best attributes and he is going to be a number nine for me. I’m happy with his development and I think he can play in this kind of second striker, offensive number 10, if you want, with us. But he’s always played as number nine.”
The manager’s remarks underline the importance of Kroupi’s role in the team, as Bournemouth seeks to fill the void left by Semenyo and manage the tactical challenges posed by the current season. Kroupi’s ability to adapt and perform in various positions will be crucial as the team looks to maintain competitive form and explore new strategic options.
