Ian Rush Kenny Daglish
Noel Gallagher, the renowned musician and ardent Manchester City supporter, has made a surprising admission regarding his football preferences. Despite his well-known allegiance to Manchester City, Gallagher has revealed that Liverpool legend Kenny Dalglish was one of his favorite players during his youth. This unexpected revelation comes amidst Gallagher’s ongoing support for his team, often seen at the Etihad Stadium and displaying the Citizens’ badge during performances with his band Oasis and solo project, Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds.
Noel Gallagher said: “My other favourite was Kenny Dalglish because he was just a phenomenal footballer. It was the 1970s, so he had the sideboards, the haircut and the big-collared shirts with the numbers on the shorts. Football was more real then, played by real men like Rodney Marsh and Stan Bowles. Today it’s played by athletes. There were no replays or three-month bans like now. Now they’re part of the stock exchange. I have to say, though, I love the way football is now with the big stars.”
Gallagher’s admiration for Dalglish is rooted in the Scottish legend’s time at Celtic, which is notably Gallagher’s second favorite team. This fondness for Dalglish highlights the musician’s appreciation for football’s past eras, characterized by a more traditional style of play. Gallagher’s comments reflect a nostalgic view of the sport, contrasting the game of the 1970s with today’s modern, commercialized football landscape.
Despite his vocal support for Manchester City, Gallagher’s acknowledgment of Dalglish’s talent showcases the universal respect the Liverpool icon commands across footballing divides. Dalglish’s impact on the sport, both at Celtic and Liverpool, continues to resonate with fans and players alike, transcending club loyalties. Gallagher’s remarks serve as a testament to Dalglish’s enduring legacy and the timeless appeal of football’s golden eras.
