Manchester United skipper Steve Bruce revealed that it was his conversation with fellow United defender Gary Pallister that prompted Alex Ferguson to pursue Eric Cantona’s deal from Leeds. He also spoke about the Frenchman settling in the team and the number of games United were playing that season.
Steve Bruce said “We were talking about Eric after we had beaten Leeds 2-0 last season at Old Trafford. Alex overheard us discussing something incredible Eric had done. nearly scoring with a bicycle kick from a head-high cross hat with pace. We couldn’t think of another player capable of what was a fantastic piece of skill and the gaffer, believing players are sometimes the best judges, started to take an interest. Eric adores Manchester United, he loves every minute of being here. He’s one of the best trainers at the club and afterwards, goes back training, usually with Brian Kidd.”
Steve Bruce said “Peter Schmeichel has played fourteen in six weeks and if we keep winning, we are going to have six Premiership games, two Coca-Cola matches, three European fixtures and a World Cup game for our internationals over the next four or live weeks. The pressure in players in ridiculous and should not be allowed to happen.”
