Chris Sutton, a former England striker and football pundit, shared his views on Nottingham Forest’s potential to finish in the Premier League’s top four this season. Sutton, once a Reds fan as a boy, believed that the team’s good balance and counter-attacking threat, along with effective leadership under the guidance of Nuno Espirito Santo, could secure them a top-four finish.
Chris Sutton said “We’re nearly halfway in, so what suggested Nottingham Forest won’t carry on this form or any of the others that were in and around them. Different teams, different styles. Forest, I thought that they liked to counter-attack. They weren’t one of those high-pressing teams, but they had a really good balance, and Chris Wood, I loved the whole Chris Wood story, the woodchopper.”
Sutton fondly recalled his connection to Nottingham Forest and the impact of Chris Wood. He reminisced about his childhood support of the club, its legendary European Cup victories under Brian Clough, and his experience playing under Forest legends Martin O’Neill and John Robertson.
Chris Sutton said “I thought people over the years had looked at him and maybe viewed him as slightly unfashionable. He was a really instinctive goal scorer, but he was more than that. He led the line really well and he’d been crucial for them, but they’d got lots of flair in that team. Defensively, Murillo and Milenkovic at the back were really rock solid. They’d got a nice balance, Nottingham Forest, to the way that they played. I used to support Nottingham Forest as a boy. I remembered the old Brian Clough European Cup wins. I played under Martin O’Neill and John Robertson, two Nottingham Forest legends. So, I was really delighted to see them doing well again.”
