Alan Kernaghan’s £1.6 million move to Manchester City was finalized in time for the Republic of Ireland defender to make his debut at Wimbledon. Apart from a medical, the four-year deal was set up and became the first signing of new City boss Brian Horton who had taken over from Peter Reid three weeks earlier.
Alan Kernaghan said “It’s a marvellous chance for me. A deal apparently suits my club Middlesbrough as well and I can’t wait to get started. I have hopefully got the world cup finals to look forward to and a player needs to be playing in the top flight. I am delighted and there are no snags. I am ambitious and I can’t wait to get started.”
Brian Horton said “We desperately need quality players. Alan is a good strong defender and will be vital to my own plans.”
