Everton 0 – Sheffield United 2 – Disappointing end to the season for Howard Kendall’s Men
Everton’s home season came to a whimpering end when the visiting Sheffield United produced a clinical performance to win 2-0 and moved just a point behind the Toffees. It was very much confirmed that Everton would just beat the drop by a narrow margin and the crowd numbers at Goodison Park confirmed the same.
In what was one of the lowest attended matches of the season, only 15197 supporters were in the ground that included 2000 travelling Yorkshiremen. Bradshaw scored the opening goal for the blades which was doubled by Briane Deane soon after. The only chance that fell to Everton on the night was for Tony Cottee but the striker failed to convert the chance in his attempt to lob the ball into the goal.
Even though much of the focus was on Liverpool and the antics of Graeme Souness that yebarnesar, Everton had suffered a terrible campaign and were set to finish the season somewhere around 15th to 17th.
