#PLStories- Southampton boss unaware of Crewe Alexandra boss David Artell’s Kayne Ramsay comments on loan recall #SAINTSFC

RALPH Hasenhuttl has admitted that he was unaware of Crewe Alexandra boss David Artell’s comments alleging that Saints only made him aware they were recalling Kayne Ramsay the night before a game. Last week, youngster Ramsay was moved from his season-long loan spell at the League One side to Scottish Premiership outfit Ross County – where he made a substitute debut last night. He was scheduled to face Charlton Athletic with the League One competitors, where he had made 15 league appearances, but instead did not feature. Following Crewe’s fixture, Artell said: “Tuesday night I received a call from Kayne’s agent that he was being recalled by Southampton and I’ve not heard from Kayne since. It is what it is and we move on.” Crewe Alexandra boss David Artell (Pic: PA) Following up, the Railwaymen confirmed to the Daily Echo that this was the official line from the club regarding Ramsay’s move and that they had to rejig their tactical plans for the clash. However, Hasenhuttl has admitted that he had not heard Artell’s comments or knew if Ramsay was indeed recalled in such a manner. “I haven’t heard about that,” the Austrian told the Daily Echo. Kayne Ramsay will spend the rest of the season at Ross County (Pic: PA) “Normally it shouldn’t be that short term and for sure this is not perfect. What exactly the fact is I have no idea and I will ask about it.” Ramsay was not the only player to have his season-long loan spell cut short at a club before being moved elsewhere. French 22-year-old striker Dan Nlundulu also switched locations, moving from League One Lincoln City to Cheltenham Town in the same division. Dan Nlundulu scored for Cheltenham Town on his club debut at the weekend (Pic: PA) Hasenhuttl continued: “The thinking behind this (the moves) is that they should get the gametime to play on a regular basis, because they wouldn’t have the chance to do this and this is why we send them on loan and keep them playing football – it’s important for them. “I know about all the decisions and they are all in agreement with Matt Crocker (director of football) and with the coaches down there.”

#PLStories- Saints loanee #KayneRamsay impressing in Crewe pre-season #SAINTSFC

ON-LOAN Saints youngster Kayne Ramsay has made a great start to temporary life at Crewe Alexandra during tough pre-season but admits “every day after training I’ve had a sleep!” The 20-year-old right-back has already featured in a couple of pre-season games for the Railwaymen and caught the eye with an impressive assist at Ashton United on Wednesday. The former Chelsea youngster has already had his first-team breakthrough with Premier League action against both Manchester clubs, but will spend the year developing with the League One side. Ramsay will have his first opportunity to play in front of his new club’s home fans on Saturday when they welcome top division side Wolves to Gresty Road. Ahead of the match, he told the club website: “I have spoken to the gaffer and what he wants from me. He wants me to get forward when I can and run in behind and make sure my man doesn’t get in behind me at the other end. It is always good to play in front of supporters and have that noise. I am really looking forward to and it took a bit of time to get used to playing without them. “You always prefer that noise and encouragement when you play.” The London-born athletic full-back was given his first minutes in a Crewe shirt during a pre-season match against Nantwich United, playing 45’ as they ran out comfortable 4-1 winners, immediately impressing with his physicality. Crewe Alexandra kick their League One season off with a match at home to newly promoted Cheltenham Town on August 7, before travelling to National League play-off winners Hartlepool in the EFL Cup on the Tuesday. However, Saints fans will be interested to see how Ramsay gets on in Crewe’s first away fixture – a trip to Fratton Park to face Portsmouth on August 14. With the season getting underway in around three weeks, pre-season has been stepping into gear for EFL clubs, with Ramsay insisting it’s been gruelling but enjoyable. The dressing room is good and everyone has been welcoming. Everyone is together and everyone gets on well, it has been a good experience. “The pre-season has been tough but I need it for my legs for the remainder of the season. I am getting used to it but every day after training I’ve had a shower and had a sleep! “I wanted to come here at the beginning of pre-season and test myself. I didn’t want to come in the middle or at the end and be behind some of the others. I wanted to come out on a season-long loan and get my head down. “I have not seen my family so obviously I miss them, but hopefully they will be able to come up and watch a game soon.”

#PLStories – #KayneRamsay happy to leave Southampton on loan #SaintsFC

DETERMINED Kayne Ramsay insisted now was the time for him to “show everyone what I can do” after joining Crewe Alexandra on a season-long loan deal. The 20-year-old full-back signed a two-year contract extension at Saints in February, but is looking to get more game time under his belt with the Alex next season. Speaking about the deal, he told the Crewe website: “I am extremely happy. I have been wanting to do this for a while now. “I have been dying to get out and get minutes and show everyone what I can do in, hopefully, a season of 40-plus games and get cracking to be honest.” Right-back Ramsay progressed through the ranks at Saints having joined from Chelsea in 2017. He made two senior appearances for the club during the 2020-21 campaign. He played 90 minutes during the infamous 9-0 defeat at Manchester United in February, before coming off the bench in Saints’ 3-0 FA Cup quarter-final win at Bournemouth. Ramsay also played 11 times for the club’s B Team in Premier League Two, as well as twice in the EFL Trophy. But the Londoner believes a campaign in the cut-and-thrust of League One will help enhance his career. “When I was looking at options, when I was speaking to Southampton, they said this was the best club for you to go and develop – especially as a young full-back,” he said. “This past year I have been in and around Southampton’s first team. “I think I’ve learned the other side of the game, the patience and to deal with certain pressures and the different sides of the game when you are not playing and how to deal with it. “Now I think I’ve actually just got to go and play. I am at that age where it’s important I go and get minutes in the league. “This is the right league for me. If I’d have gambled and went to the Championship and maybe didn’t play – where I can go to League One and show what I can do and see if I am able to cope with it.” Ramsay added: “In the past I have made mistakes where I could have looked back and think ‘I shouldn’t have done that there’ in these past two years. “Now you’ve just got to focus, you’ve only got one chance at this and you’ve just got to take it.”

#PLStories- #RalphHasenhuttl reveals admiration for player quality #AlexJankewitz has #SAINTSFC

RALPH Hasenhuttl remains confident Alex Jankewitz can play to a "very high level", despite the youngster's limited match minutes for Saints last season. The teenager made his senior Saints debut in January, coming off the bench in a 2-0 FA Cup win over Shrewsbury Town at St Mary's. His Premier League bow followed a few days later against Aston Villa, before being handed a first top-flight start in February. However, it turned into a nightmare evening for Jankewitz, sent off after just two minutes against Manchester United at Old Trafford for a horror challenge on Scott McTominay. Saints went on to lose 9-0 and Jankewitz has not played for the first team since. The 19-year-old received sickening racist abuse online following that incident, with team-mate Kayne Ramsay taking to Instagram to show his support for the youngster. He wrote: "Comments directed at my teammate Alex is inexcusable. "Faceless person/s behind a screen, they’re just ignorant with nothing but an agenda to make the hurt even more painful. "Why break a guy down, with all the hate, when he already feels broken? "However, does that give another person the right to abuse another person because he is black!? "Why direct such hate, when there is so much upset and turmoil in the world. No-one needs negative energy, you can’t direct all this hate to a player who has made a mistake. "Why not send some good vibes and positive thoughts, to build the guy back up, he’s a human being, a black human being, with feelings and emotions, no different to mine and yours. "I’m a young black man, just like Alex. "He got a red card, his timing was all wrong, he’s truly gutted, disappointed in himself." Since that defeat at Old Trafford, Jankewitz has impressed on the international stage with Switzerland under-21s. He played in all three group games at the European U21 Championship and his season drew to a close at the weekend, featuring for the full 90 minutes as the Swiss beat Republic of Ireland under-21s 2-0 in a friendly. And Hasenhuttl has urged the midfielder to be ready for whenever his chance with Saints arises again. Discussing Jankewitz's progress, the Saints boss said: "The (full) debut against Man United was definitely not really helpful for him. "I think he made a mistake, but he knows this. "In the end, we see the quality that he has. We see that he can maybe one time play also on a very high level, but like always there is now big competition in this position. "We have Stuey (Armstrong) now back on the six, Ibra (Diallo) is there and Ori (Romeu) comes back, it is not so easy to get a chance there to play. But when there is a moment to give him a chance to play, then we will definitely do it. "When he trains hard and when he is available and gets the chance, then he must show up." Saints academy director Matt Hale added: "It is great to see Alex on the international stage. “He has made so much progress since he joined us when he was 16 and this experience (with Switzerland) will provide him with great confidence.”
