#PLStories- Burnley midfielder Josh Brownhill says patience and surprise after Sean Dyche exit is important in quest for survival #BURNLEYFC

BURNLEY midfielder Josh Brownhill feels patience can prove just as important as being direct in the team’s battle to stay in the Premier League. The Clarets host Wolves on Sunday with the opportunity to climb out of the bottom three, if only for a few hours ahead of Everton’s trip to Anfield in the Merseyside derby. As the search for a permanent successor continues behind the scenes, Mike Jackson and his interim coaching staff will look to build on Thursday’s 2-0 win over Southampton at Turf Moor. It was a first home game since the shock sacking of Sean Dyche and renewed hope of top-flight survival after four points from six under caretaker boss Jackson. Although there was no major change to Burnley’s approach, the team responded to the roar of the Turf Moor faithful right from kick-off. The Clarets took an early lead through a curling effort from right-back Connor Roberts, his first goal for the club, and continued to test Saints goalkeeper Fraser Forster before Nathan Collins nodded in ahead of the break. After the hard-earned victory lifted the mood in the camp, Brownhill hopes Burnley can now build some momentum in their fresh start and with under-23s coach Jackson temporarily at the helm. “With a change of manager, the opposition doesn’t know how you are going to play,” the midfielder said. “On Thursday night, we were more patient, but still direct and played forward. “In our last two home games, we have got a couple of wins – and they are important ones as well. “Everyone is in high spirits (now), but we are not where we want to be yet.” Brownhill told a press conference: “It is all about us winning games. If we win the majority of ours towards the end of the season, then we will be all right. “We know where we are at, and we know what we need to do to get the points. “What we do here is bring energy and hard work, Thursday night was the same and we have got the momentum now. “If we can go onto Sunday and win again, then it would be massive for us.” Wolves have not played since they lost 1-0 at Newcastle on April 8, with their game against Manchester City being postponed because of last weekend’s FA Cup semi-finals. Bruno Lage’s side still have a top-six finish on their radar. Brownhill knows Burnley will have to be fully focused for another stern test of their Premier League credentials. “It is all about us, but you have also got to recognise that they have got some quality players,” the Clarets midfielder said. “Wolves wouldn’t be where they are in the division and fighting for a place in Europe if they weren’t. “It is about us, though, with the confidence and momentum that we have got and we have to continue that.”

#PLStories- Burnley midfielder Josh Brownhill ‘not worried’ about relegation #BURNLEYFC

BURNLEY midfielder Josh Brownhill says the squad is determined to push on from their recent performances and start to climb the Premier League table. The Clarets are unbeaten in their last four league matches following Saturday’s thrilling 3-3 draw with Crystal Palace. Brownhill says there have been encouraging signs in their recent performances and insists the side has what it takes to pull away from the drop zone. “It’s been quite difficult with points but performance-wise we’ve been really good. I’m not worried in any way, shape or form,” said the midfielder. “We’ve got such a good squad this year – the quality we’ve brought in and the people we kept hold of is massive. “As much as the points have not been there, the performances have and I think we’re unbeaten in our last four (league games). “We’re really looking to get more points on the board and push up the table.” Last season, the Clarets picked up just two points from their opening seven fixtures but went on to survive comfortably – finishing 11 points ahead of the bottom three. And Brownhill believes their experience of relegation battles gives the Clarets an edge over some of their Premier League rivals. He added: “Burnley Football Club, we know what we are and we’re not going to sit here and say we’re going to challenge for the title. “We need to stay in the Premier League first and foremost, and as soon as we get over the line we’ll start heading up the table as much as possible. “The quality is there, we got into Europe a few years ago so I’m not worried whatsoever.” Sean Dyche’s men are back in action on Sunday afternoon when they welcome Tottenham to Turf Moor (KO 2pm). Brownhill is expecting a tough test against the London outfit but insists there is no reason why they can’t get something from the game. He said: “They’ve obviously been taken over by (Antonio) Conte so they are going to be buzzing and excited. “But we’re at home, we’re in good form, we’ve got the crowd behind us. “So yeah, I’m really looking forward to the game and it would be no surprise if we get points this weekend.” The midfielder was speaking at the North West Football Awards, where he received a mention for his efforts to raise awareness for local businesses affected by the pandemic. “It’s obviously something that’s close to my heart - the community in football. Wherever I’ve been, I’ve tried to be involved in it,” he added. “It’s no different being at Burnley – I wanted to get involved and the pandemic happened and it was a struggle for everybody, not just in football but the community around. “People who support me at the weekend, I can support them and for me it was about creating the series to get it out there to help their businesses really.”

#PLStories- Burnley midfielder Josh Brownhill reveals his intention to help local businesses #BURNLEYFC

BURNLEY midfielder Josh Brownhill has opened up about his efforts to promote local businesses that have been impacted by the pandemic. Brownhill launched a video series on his Instagram page to raise awareness and has had over half a million views so far. "It was about what I can do on a personal level to help these local businesses," he told BBC Sport. "As it was kind of opening up again, I started going to the local shops and building relationships with them. "After going past all these different shops, including ones that weren't even open, you realise a lot of people are going to struggle with this. "Even now, shops that are back open are struggling just because of how long (the pandemic) has gone on." Brownhill joined the Clarets from Bristol City back in January 2020, and admits adjusting to his new surroundings was tough due to the lockdown which began two months later. The midfielder believes the footballing world has done its part since the start of the pandemic but says a lot of work goes “under the radar”. He added: "You know that it won't just be me doing something. It will be a lot of other footballers doing their own thing, helping the community. “And it all goes under the radar a little bit because not a lot of people would publicise it and get it out there. As a whole, everybody in football did their part with donating on different levels. "For me, it wasn't for recognition, it was about how I could help and let people know around Burnley that I could help the local community rather than some of the bigger stores that don't need as much help."
