Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has spoken out on the recent Covid-19 outbreaks that have seen postponements sweep through the Premier League in the last week. Klopp spoke following his side’s 2-2 draw with Tottenham earlier this afternoon (Sunday) and admitted the Premier League must now take imminent action.
Jurgen Klopp said: ”We play now Wednesday then Sunday then Tuesday, that’s just not possible. We don’t have the players we need and we probably will have another case or two so then those players will go into quarantine too. I think we should take away the second leg of the semi-final of the Carabao Cup, throw it away, just play it once wherever you want to play it, I don’t care. Maybe we will wake up tomorrow and have too many cases not to play but we need help with the fixtures.”
The 54-year-old has often criticised the heavy scheduling across the Christmas period in England and stated he would not be against the idea of a halt among the Premier League.
Jurgen Klopp said: ”If we don’t play anymore and we have a break I am completely fine with that as well. I know the problem is now going to be when do we play the games, its not so easy to find spaces wherever you can fit it in here and there. They said before [Covid] that the schedule was a little busy and now all of sudden it comes back and gives us another punch. In truth we cannot carry on like this and thats what we have to consider as well.”
The Premier League are due to hold an emergency meeting on Monday to discuss solutions to the current crisis, with some reports suggesting fixtures on December 26-28th could be postponed.
