Bruno Lage has hailed Wolverhampton Wanderers’ ‘Moroccan Maldini’ after a beautifully crafted goal clinched a first win in five Premier League games against Brighton.
Bruno Lage said: “When our strikers didn’t score, Saiss appeared. That is why everyone knows him as Maldini from Morocco. He scored one and he could have scored another at the start of the second half. We work hard in that part of the game, the way we are defending and attacking set pieces. Credit for my staff, they are working hard in that situation. It was a beautiful goal. I’m very happy because it’s given us three points.”
Max Kilman and Conor Coady have earned huge plaudits alongside Saiss in Wolves’ back-line this season. Saiss is often an overlooked part of a defence which has kept five Premier League clean sheets and conceded just 14 goals in 17 games – a record only the top three of Manchester City, Liverpool and Chelsea can better. Lage is pleased to see Saiss finally grab the limelight from his two English colleagues.
Bruno Lage added: “He deserves it because he’s doing a good season. Sometimes we talk about Coady, sometimes we are talking about Max, but today he deserved that goal. He had a big chance to score against Man United, he scored against Aston Villa and today he could score twice. He’s there every time, working hard to try and improve. Credit for him.”
