Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has previously said that Martin Odegaard has ‘the personality’ to be a captain, ahead of choosing a new man to take the armband at the Emirates Stadium. Previous captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang was stripped of the role on Tuesday, with it being confirmed by the club following an undisclosed disciplinary breach. Gunners’ boss Arteta has suggested that he was the ideal candidate to assume that role for his nation. Talking in a press conference in March,
Mikel Arteta said: “I’m not surprised after sharing some time with him now. I’m not surprised at all. He’s got this personality, he’s a really humble and easygoing guy but at the same time, he’s very, very professional and very dedicated. He leads by example, which normally a captain should do.”
Of course, since then Odegaard has become a permanent Arsenal player having initially impressed during a loan spell from Spanish giants Real Madrid.
