Brentford certainly left it late when they came from 1-0 down to beat Watford on Friday. Two late goals from Pontus Jansson and Bryan Mbeumo gave the Bees a priceless victory, and one they deserved on the balance of play. Defensively, they were solid despite the loss of Ethan Pinnock with Covid-19, with Vitaly Janelt stepping in to play at centre-back.
Mads Roerslev said: “It’s incredible. Also, the way we ended the game like the late match-winner, that was just crazy! I can’t not be happy for that. Obviously every point counts, when we get any three points, it’s massive for us especially when it’s so competitive and it’s so close in the league right now. Of course, we played good as a team, we developed, there are a lot of things we could have done better especially in the first half. Even though we were not on the top of our game, we still kept them from creating any chances and space. I think in the second half, we improved a lot and we were definitely on top of the game.”
The 23-year-old was adamant Brentford would win the game at 1-1 with five minutes left, as a late onslaught eventually paid off handsomely for Thomas Frank’s side.
Mads Roerslev said: “The whole team obviously believed in it. Of course, as the time goes, you get to rush a bit more and more but when we got the equaliser for Pontus, it was just a rush going through everyone’s body and you could see in all of the guy’s eyes that we were not just going to leave it at one point, we wanted all three. I think that was the determination that got us where we went at the end.”
Now the small matter of welcoming Manchester United awaits Brentford on Tuesday night, with Roerslev asked how much is he looking forward to the game.
Mads Roerslev added: “A lot! I think we all know it’s one of the biggest clubs in England. That said, we will go into the game as any other game, we will go in there to get all three points and we’re not going to just stay there and be starstruck. Of course, it’s incredible to play against big players and big clubs but we will attack the game as we always do.”
