Jurgen Klopp has admitted “would love it” if Steven Gerrard replaced him as Liverpool manager. Both managers have consistently been asked questions about the possibility of Gerrard becoming the next Liverpool boss in the build-up to the game.
Jurgen Klopp said: “The good thing is I have no problem with this sort of thing (questions about Gerrard becoming Liverpool boss one day). I will not be here forever so I would love it to be Stevie! But no I did not feel under pressure today.”
Speaking about the game, Klopp said Liverpool were “clearly the better side” for 75 minutes but “lost the rhythm” after Mo Salah scored from the penalty spot. The penalty came on 67 minutes after Villa captain Tyrone Mings fouled Salah inside the box.
Jurgen Klopp said: “I think for Tyrone Mings it was not easy to avoid the situation [for Liverpool’s penalty] so that’s it. The one with Andy Robertson I thought was a clear penalty at the time but I have not seen it back. I don’t know if it was a clear penalty or not. [Steven Gerrard] is obviously a good coach. It is really strange when you meet before the game. A lot of the coaching staff from your own club is strange. They do what they do and everything is okay.”
