Arsenal star Ainsley Maitland-Niles has become disillusioned with his game time, according to recent reports. Speaking after the game about his desire to leave Arsenal in the summer,
Ainsley Maitland-Niles said: “That’s all in the past now. I am just thinking about the future and what’s ahead of me. It was great to be out there today, getting my minutes, and hopefully there is more to come. Yeah [I’m] always happy to be on the pitch and play, it’s a good feeling. Of course, I’m looking for more minutes, I just need to keep my head down and keep going and working hard.”
It now seems that Arteta made a big mistake in the summer of 2020 when he reportedly urged the club to reject a £20million offer from Wolves for Maitland-Niles’ services. With the Gunners now highly unlikely to receive a fee anywhere near that in January, should Maitland-Niles look to leave, Arteta’s earlier transfer decision may well have been proven wrong.
