West Ham United have confirmed that both Kurt Zouma and Ben Johnson are out with respective hamstring injuries picked up in the win over Chelsea at the weekend. The Hammers fought hard to earn a 3-2 victory at the London Stadium, but the win came at a price as Zouma and Johnson became the latest defensive casualties at the club.
West Ham statement read: “West Ham United can confirm that Kurt Zouma sustained a hamstring tendon injury during Saturday’s Premier League victory against Chelsea. A scan on Monday revealed the damage and the 27-year-old French international defender has already started his recovery programme at Rush Green under the supervision of the medical team. Meanwhile, Ben Johnson has also started his rehabilitation after suffering a low-grade hamstring strain during the 3-2 win against our London rivals. Everyone at West Ham United would like to wish both Kurt and Ben all the very best in their recovery.”
It’s understood that the Hammers could well address the issue in the transfer market in the coming weeks. With Angelo Agbonna already out for what looks to be the season following surgery on his ACL, there is a need for defensive reinforcement in the upcoming window. There are no developments on reported targets just yet, however.
