Vladimir Coufal is delighted to be back in the West Ham team after losing his spot through injury and the fine form of Ben Johnson. Now the Czech Republic defender is back in the team he has no intention of giving his place up as he aims to help West Ham continue their fine progression. Despite defeating Chelsea, Liverpool and Tottenham in the Premier League, as well as knocking both Manchester United and Manchester City out of the Carabao Cup, Coufal is trying to keep expectations in check.
Vladimir Coufal said: “Yes, we beat United, then City at this stadium and also Liverpool so it could be a wonderful season for us. Of course we want to be as high as possible in the table but we are still not on this level like Chelsea, Liverpool and Man City. We are trying to get on this level. Sometimes we play good against these teams, sometimes we play bad but we are in a process. Sometimes we are able to deliver this beautiful result.”
With West Ham sitting in the top four and progress in the Europa League already assured, the defender said the Hammers could be set for something exceptional in 2022.
Vladimir Coufal added: “It is a special season. We’re in the Europa League after I don’t know how many years. We will be there in the next half of the season because we got first in the group and we want to be as high as possible in the Premier League. It is just about hard work in the sessions and to be confident on the pitch.”
Coufal was a near ever-present last season but after an injury earlier in the season he has had to bide his time to get back in the team due to the form of Johnson. However, after a fine display against Chelsea and injuries to Johnson and Cresswell, Coufal looks set for a long run in the team.
Vladimir Coufal added: “I had an injury so it is normal [to fight for my play] in football. Ben did well so it wasn’t any reason to change it. We won every game that I missed so there was no reason to change it. Now I am back and I hope for a long time.”
