A 94th minute goal from impact sub Divock Origi saw Liverpool defeat a gutsy Wolverhampton Wanderers at Molineux. Bruno Lage’s team matched Premier League title contenders Liverpool for 90 minutes before the Belgian – who was pursued by Wolves two years ago – fired home the winner. As expected, Wolves were forced to spend most of the first half inside their own final third as Liverpool pressed and probed. The Reds – who are the Premier League’s most prolific team by a country mile – struggled to penetrate Wolves for the most part.

Bruno Lage said: “It’s important for us to listen to Klopp’s words about our team because we are there, playing as a unit. We must move on because today we played one of the best teams in the world and next week we will play one of the best teams in the world. The most important thing to say in this moment is when we win, we win together, when we lose, we lose together. We did a solid performance and we cannot lose that ball in extra-time. Our job and our strategy was to stop them from having transitions. When you lose the ball, don’t give them a transition. I don’t want to point to no one, but it’s frustrating because I come to the dressing room and see my players’ faces. We didn’t deserve to lose this game. Me and the fans should be proud of our players.”

Jurgen Klopp said: “If you don’t take your chances, it happens pretty often were you go home with one point, or if they use one of their rare counter-attacks, you go home with nothing, which would have been incredibly unfair from our point of view, obviously,” the Liverpool boss said after the final whistle. This is now the right result, I think. We had the majority of the ball, we were very dominant, we didn’t let them play how they usually play. It was a football-playing side to not really be seen today because we were really at them. So, good game with a great result. That’s it.”
