Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has insisted Chelsea’s defeat to West Ham United on Saturday is “not important”. The Blues were beaten 3-2 by the Hammers in the early kick-off on Saturday afternoon, despite having the lead at the London Stadium on two separate occasions. Klopp, just after seeing Divock Origi net a 94th minute winner against Wolves at Molineux, was not in the mood to speak about Chelsea’s slip up earlier on in the day and insisted it was “not important” to him.
Jurgen Klopp said: “Yeah, but honestly other results are really not important. I don’t even know exactly how many points we have. We just have to win football games. Three days ago, we played the derby and it is easy to focus on the derby, obviously, because it is the game of the year. And then you have this little drop, you need to in a recovery period where you switch off and do not think about football for the next 72 hours. Then you start the machine again.”
Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel, like Klopp, played down talk over the title race during his post-match press conference on Saturday afternoon.
Thomas Tuchel said: “The race is not interesting at the moment. What is interesting is always the next 90 minutes and what is interesting is to have the focus right, the attitude right, and to take care about the details. We are not good enough on the details at the moment. We do too many big mistakes and have to care about the details. There is not need to ask questions or start doubting about the big picture. This is a game if you play at West Ham about the details. I can only repeat myself: without doing big mistakes, there is a big chance we win this game.”
Next up for Chelsea in the Premier League is a home clash with Leeds United next weekend, while Liverpool host Aston Villa and Man City entertain Wolves.
