Michael Carrick insists the Manchester United players are looking forward to working under Ralf Rangnick. Rangnick is still waiting to receive his work permit to officially take over as interim manager and could be in charge for the Premier League visit of Crystal Palace on Sunday.

Michael Carrick said: “Players adapt, there are different skills and styles you have to have,” Carrick said. “We have played different styles since we came here. Ralf has a terrific pedigree over a long period of time and had good success with that, so I am sure that the players are looking forward to the days and weeks ahead. I think the players have the right attitude, where almost irrespective of who is in charge, the responsibility of the player is to prepare yourself and be ready for the next training session and game, especially at a club like this where we have three huge games. You have to be ready as a player and, to be fair, the boys are there, it’s not always been easy and it’s not been free-flowing football all the way through but we’ve shown another side and obviously we need to keep showing that.”

United are not anticipating any more coaching departures despite the likelihood of Rangnick bringing some of his own staff to the club. Carrick is not itching to get into management after serving as caretaker since the start of last week and he is expected to move back into his first-team coaching role once Rangnick takes official charge.

Michael Carrick added: “It certainly hasn’t put me off, no. Certainly hasn’t put me off. But at the same point, I’m not suddenly desperate to become a manager. I’m realistic and the experience has definitely helped me from the lows and the sadness of Ole leaving to having to adapt and getting through the games. It has been a challenge but one I’ve enjoyed. You’re never certain of what roles you might be good at or not good at. That is a life experience. You have to go through it to learn from it. I’ve certainly learnt throughout this week.”
