James Maddison continued his excellent recent form with a goal and a man-of-the-match display as Leicester City secured a point in a 2-2 draw at Southampton. It was a game of contrasting halves for the Foxes, who were dreadful in the first period, falling behind twice to goals from Jan Bednarek and Che Adams. The Foxes were boosted by the introduction of Kiernan Dewsbury, who replaced Boubakary Soumare at half-time. Maddison made it 2-2 with classy finish and Leicester could have pinched victory with better finishing.
James Maddison said: “A draw was maybe fair. In the second half we definitely dominated. The gaffer always reiterates the message, ‘if you can’t win, don’t lose’. It’s easy to throw everything at it and concede one at the other end. There were some tough, harsh words at half-time from the gaffer and our captain, and rightly so. It paid off. I thought Dewsbury-Hall was excellent in the second half. He really gave us some legs and control of the game which allowed us to go forward and attack more freely.”
On being complimented on his excellent recent form,
James Maddison added: “In every interview now, someone says it looks like you’ve got your swagger back, so I’m obviously doing something right,” he said. Straight off the pitch, it’s always hard to talk about yourself because at the end of the day you want to come away with three points, and it’s frustrating.”
