Crystal Palace centre-back Joachim Andersen says he wants the Eagles to continue their winning mentality and solidify their place in the top half of the Premier League. Andersen says this type of form means the team should be aiming high this season, and focusing on trying to take three points in every match they play.
Joachim Anderson said: “It’s so difficult to talk about targets and what we want,” he said. We just want to play nice football, we want to have good results and at this moment in time, it is working. Maybe if we continue to play like this we could finish in a nice spot and of course we are aiming high. We have high ambitions, the team has big ambitions and myself as well. We are just trying to win every game.”
Andersen joined the Eagles over the summer after they had parted ways with the previous manager Roy Hodgson and brought Patrick Vieira on board. Alongside fellow new recruit Marc Guehi at the back, the Dane has been tasked with helping Palace switch their style of play by focusing on keeping possession of the ball more and playing more attacking football. The evidence of this working is clear to see, as Vieira’s side are scoring more goals and conceding less per game than they were last season, as well as having more of the ball on average and making more passes.
Joachim Anderson said: “The way we approach the games is with an attacking mindset and a front-foot mindset,” added Andersen. This is obviously something Palace, they had to change their mentality for the last couple of years because they played differently but now we are trying to change that and it is already working good. It is the way I have been playing for the majority of my career, this style and I really enjoy playing football like this.”
Crystal Palace now have a two-week break for the international break before they return to Premier League action on November 20 away at Burnley. Andersen will be representing his country meanwhile, with 2022 World Cup qualifying matches taking place against Faroe Islands (November 12) and Scotland (November 15).
