Pep Guardiola says Manchester City won’t rely on help from any other sides after taking a huge step towards the last-16 of the Champions League. Guardiola was asked after the game whether Leipzig had given them a helping hand, but he cheekily denied such an idea as he insisted nobody helps City.
Pep Guardiola said: “We help each other. What we have done these years, I promise you, when you are at Manchester City you realise, nobody helps you. What we have done we do it. So satisfied, when you are in high clubs I understand, here no. What we win we know it, that’s why all the titles I won before was because I was with the big clubs. Absolutely, the pleasure [of winning things at City] is higher.”
Guardiola also praised his side’s performance, particularly after being pegged back at 1-1 in the first half.
Pep Guardiola said: “Fully deserved, the first 15 minutes until we scored was magnificent, then we concede one action and drop a bit and we couldn’t concede the goals. Second half really good, they change the setup, defend so deep, attack channels. A good game, important to take six points after defeat in Paris. We need one more point to qualify, the more to be first. Every game is tough, they change the shape that they played in Belgium. The team played really good. The spirit of the team is fantastic. We played good all game, of course they attack channels, played two strikers, make good moments. We played really good, I like the way we played. I don’t know if we can play better than the first 20 minutes, the transitions, the aggressive. After the goals the mindset of the players [dropped] that’s life, its how your overcome, when everything isn’t going well. Even the fans ‘oh we concede’. Yeah we go again, we have 75 minutes. Just doing what we have done is enough.”
