Dean Smith fully believes he can turn it around at Aston Villa after their fourth defeat on the bounce at the hands of West Ham.
Dean Smith said: “We have a squad capable of doing better than we are. There are reasons why we’ve had the results we’ve had. We’ve had some injuries but the perception probably outside the football club is very different to what it is at Bodymoor Heath. The players have a great belief in what they’re doing and what we’re doing. We will turn this around and get better. I’m confident (we’ll turn this around), of course.”
Ollie Watkins’ equaliser was just Villa’s third first-half goal this season as Smith lamented his side’s start in their 4-1 defeat with Johnson putting the visitors ahead after seven minutes. Quizzed on why his side are slow starters,
Dean Smith replied: “It was only the first five or ten minutes today, then it was the fact JJ got injured so early in the game so we had to make an early change. Listen, when you’ve lost three on the spin now four on the spin, there’s always going to be that anxiety amongst the players and supporters. We grew into that game after 15 minutes and both the players and fans responded.”
