Leicester City’s excellent recruitment and squad depth has been praised by Brighton boss Graham Potter ahead of the clubs’ Carabao Cup fourth-round tie. City are set to make several changes for the game as Brendan Rodgers gives some players a rest, and some an opportunity to impress. But Potter knows that does not mean City will be fielding a significantly weaker team because of their activity in the transfer market over recent seasons.
Graham Potter said: “They’ve assembled a really good squad, it’s well documented that their recruitment has been fantastic. It means they haven’t just got 11 players, they’ve got a squad of players and I’m sure they will be looking at that because they’ve had a heavy fixture period. They’ve moved to a three at the back which looks to suit them really well but in terms of what they do, you never know, so we will have to adapt on the night. We have a lot of respect for Leicester City as a football club and what they’ve achieved, and how they’ve achieved it, is really impressive.”
The clubs have already met once this season, the Seagulls coming out on top in a controversial game. Neal Maupay scored a debatable penalty before Danny Welbeck headed Brighton 2-0 up. Jamie Vardy replied before City put the ball in the net twice more through Ademola Lookman and Wilfred Ndidi, only for the linesman to flag Harvey Barnes offside both times for obstructing the goalkeeper. However, Potter does not feel that game will have too great an impact on events at the King Power Stadium.
Graham Potter said: “It will be two completely different teams, I imagine Brendan will make some changes, we’ll make some changes. It’s at their place, they’ll look to be dominant at home so we need to be ready for that. We’ll compete and do our best, it’s a great game for us, a good opportunity for the guys and we’re looking forward to it.”
