Hugo Lloris said it’s “normal” that Harry Kane would need “time to recover” after his difficult summer for club and country. Kane was the captain for England during the summer in their Euros campaign, which took them all the way to the final at Wembley, where they lost 3-2 on penalties to Italy. In an interview with Sky Sports, club captain Lloris explained that players running to the 29-year-old in celebration highlighted what they think of him.
Hugo Lloris said: “He [Harry Kane] went through different emotions last summer and after big disappointment like the final that England lost, it’s normal that we need time to recover. You feel that you don’t get rewarded because at the end of the day only the win matters.”
Lloris speaks from experience as he went through a similar thing with France, when they lost 1-0 to Portugal in the Euro 2016 final.
Hugo Lloris said: “I went through this situation and I told him losing against Portugal in 2016 at home, this final could have changed the career of all the players involved and we could not imagine that two years later we would win the World Cup.”
France only had to wait two years for their trophy as they beat Croatia 4-2 in the 2018 World Cup final and the captain explained that despite the disappointing summer, he still has confidence in Kane.
Hugo Lloris added: “I am not worried for Harry as he is at the perfect age, the perfect moment of his career.”
