Norwich City 1 Manchester United 3
Manchester United faced down the barrel of the title gun last night at Carrow Road but it was the visitors who administered the assassin’s bullet into Norwich corpse. In winning stylishly on a 3-1 scoreline and mindful that it could have been five or six, Alex Ferguson’s side showed that his present band of red warriors were not the chokers of twelve months ago.
Ryan Giggs opened the scoring before Andrei Kanchelskis doubled the lead. It looked like that a cricket score was on cards when Cantona put United three up but Norwich composed themselves and eventually got a goal back from ex-United player Mike Robins.
United moved to the second place in the table and had a far superior goal difference to Villa, which could count for an extra point come to the end of the season.
