Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has revealed Harry Maguire has resumed training and has a chance of returning to the side against Leicester City on Saturday. Maguire was a doubt to play against his former club this weekend after last featuring for United three weeks ago against Aston Villa, when he suffered a calf strain, and Solskjaer’s captain missed the win over Villarreal and draw with Everton. Raphael Varane sustained a groin injury in France’s Nations League win over Spain on Sunday and has been ruled out for “a few weeks”, while Fred and Edinson Cavani are both unavailable for United after they both started in Brazil’s 4-1 World Cup qualifying win over Uruguay in Manaus on Thursday night.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer said: “International breaks are sometimes the time to cross your fingers and hope for the best. Because, as we see with Raphael, he’s got an injury, out for a few weeks. But, then again, Victor and Eric played in the internationals and got good game-time, that’s good for us. With regards to Fred and Edinson, they played a full game this morning, 1.30am kick-off. So we’re not counting on them. We have to give them time to rest and recover. You have to. They played well, that’s the good thing for us, not injured but hopefully, they can be involved in midweek in the Champions League [against Atalanta]. Harry’s just joined us on the grass this morning, that’s the first time he’s been on the grass. Amad: first time on the grass today as well. So we look quite strong.”
Solskjaer added that Marcus Rashford is also in contention to return from injury at the King Power Stadium.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer said: “He (Rashford)’s in the squad, yes. If he’s going to start or not, I can’t tell you now, because it wouldn’t be right. He’s worked really hard throughout the whole lay-off. He’s been really bright this week and had a 60-minute involvement in a behind-closed-doors game last week, so he’s fit and raring to go.”
