CHE Adams revealed he had a “slight problem” with his electrocardiogram (ECG) heart scan before Scotland’s Euro 2020 opener back in June. The Saints frontman was brought off the bench by Steve Clarke for their group clash against Czech Republic on June 14, before starting their remaining games against England and Croatia. And the 25-year-old, who featured in Saturday’s 3-2 World Cup qualifier over Israel at Hampden Park on Saturday, revealed how he had to go to hospital for clearance ahead of appearing at the tournament.

Che Adams said: “It was difficult at first to get my head around not starting against Czech Republic. But once you do that, it’s okay. That’s just football. And to be fair, we did have a slight problem before the game with my ECG heart scan. I had one before the game and they had to take me to hospital to get more information on it. So that could have been another reason why the gaffer made that decision. I wasn’t worried. I think they just needed more data to prove I was okay. Obviously with what happened to (Christian) Eriksen, everyone was having to do heart scans. So that was all it was, they just needed more information and data to back it up. And I was all good. I’ve never had any heart issues in the past. Getting these scans is just a standard thing now. But the manager was probably concerned about me before the game. It was nothing serious but he wanted to protect me and I think it was the right decision. Obviously, I’m alright now and I’d had scans in the past with nothing coming up. It was more a case of other people being more worried about it than me.”

Adams played 68 minutes of his country’s latest triumph against Israel, during which Scott McTominay scored a dramatic late winner. Steve Clarke’s side remain in second place in Group F on 14 points behind runaway leaders Denmark ahead of a trip to the Faroe Islands on Tuesday, where three points will be expected in the quest for a play-off spot.
