Leicester City defender Jonny Evans will be hoping to face his former club when Leicester City host Manchester United next Saturday.
Brendan Rodgers said: “He wasn’t well enough to travel so we’ve kept him behind and we’ll see how he is for the weekend. He’s a top defender and when he plays we are better. We just have to manage it. We were hoping he was going to be available for this game, but he’s not. We’ll see when we get back and hopefully he’ll be available for the weekend.”
Jonny Evans will play no part in Northern Ireland’s World Cup qualifier against Switzerland, it has been confirmed. Evans was selected for the 26-man squad, but has not yet joined up with his international teammates for the games away to the Swiss on Saturday and in Bulgaria on Tuesday. The 33-year-old has a long-standing foot injury and Northern Ireland boss Ian Baraclough said the player would make the final call on his availability for both games. While Evans is definitely out of the Switzerland game, it is hoped he will be fit enough to play some part against Bulgaria.
