Leicester City manager Brendan Rodgers has said he takes responsibility for the poor starts that are plaguing his side. Starting quickly is the key to getting City’s form back, Rodgers said, and it’s his job to find the solution.
Brendan Rodgers said “I was disappointed with the result. In the first half we were too passive in the game. We had a couple of really good chances in the game, we didn’t concede too much, but we’re disappointed with the goal. We were much more active in the game in the second half. We dominated and had opportunities to at least get something from the game. Overall, I’m disappointed with the result. The reaction was good in the second half but we need to be much more active in the game. It’s something we spoke about afterwards. We’ve got to have that real aggressive mentality. It was the same against Burnley. We were too passive in the first half, and then in the second half much better. We’ve got to start games strong and finish them well, and at the minute we’re finishing them strong but not starting them well. It’s my responsibility to fix that.”
The result leaves City with just one point from two games and bottom of Group C, five points behind leaders Legia. In the group’s other game, Napoli suffered a surprise home defeat by Spartak Moscow. Rodgers is not losing faith over City’s hopes in the competition with two home games and two away games to come.
Brendan Rodgers said “It’s very open. There’s four games to go. Legia have made a good start. Our aim is to qualify and we still have every chance to do that. There’s a bit of work to do, especially drawing the first game. We’ve got one point from two games. There’s a bit of work to do, but there are enough opportunities for us to do that.”
City fell to defeat at Legia Warsaw on Thursday night in a blow to their Europa League hopes, their attempted second-half comeback falling short after they went in at the break trailing. In each of the last four games, including those against Brighton, Millwall, and Burnley, City have struggled in the first half and needed a fired-up display in the second period to give themselves a chance to get a result. But it has rarely been enough, and they finish September with just one win from six games.
