Chelsea goalkeeper Edouard Mendy has labelled teammate Thiago Silva a “geek” amid a surprise admission that he is a regular gamer. Since both arriving at Stamford Bridge last summer, the two have struck up an excellent understanding on the pitch. The pair have both been key under Thomas Tuchel, and have played their roles in a Champions League success, as well as having claimed the UEFA Super Cup against Villarreal earlier this season. Regardless of their connection on the pitch, the two also share a surprise hobby off of it – being fans of gaming – although they rarely come together virtually.
Edouard Mendy said: “I like to play video games, especially Call of Duty with my brother. We play as a team. He is in France so it is virtual. I have a headset, the big gaming chair, everything! I’m a proper geek, like Thiago [Silva] who is a geek as well! I don’t play with him though; he prefers Formula One games.”
The 29-year-old Senegalese is not the first to have caused a stir in west London over gaming this season. Antonio Rudiger took to Twitter earlier this month having been left disappointed with his rating in the latest iteration of FIFA Ultimate Team. Mendy has also revealed that he is not too pleased with the rating that he has been handed on the game – an aspect that has convinced him to go not buy a copy as of yet.
Edouard Mendy continued: “I don’t play FIFA because I don’t like my ratings! This season is still bad! Even for Toni [Antonio Rudiger], he wasn’t happy. I don’t have Twitter otherwise I would definitely complain!”
