Mark Noble has accused his former teammate Jesse Lingard of diving during the clash between West Ham and Manchester United. During the first-half with the Hammers winning 1-0 Lingard went down in the penalty area screamed for a penalty following contact with Noble. Whilst Noble did have a hold of the England internationals shirt contact was minimal and Jon Moss waved away Lingard’s claim and with VAR not in use the referees call stood. The Hammers went on to see the game out for a famous victory and Noble revealed he castigated Lingard for the dive.
Mark Noble said: “That’s football, he dived and I told him [off] for screaming, funnily enough, he didn’t really do it at our place but he does it here.”
The former teammates were able to laugh the incident off although Noble was still upset with Lingard for scoring the winner on Sunday’s match between the two teams
Mark Noble said: “We had a laugh on the pitch today, I love Jesse, he’s a great character and I’m so pleased he’s come [back] here and getting his chance, he’s scored some fantastic goals obviously the one against us was hurtful, he’s a great lad and he deserves everything he gets.”
West Ham could have had more than their one goal at Old Trafford with Noble and Andriy Yarmolenko guilty of some terrible finishing.
Mark Noble added: “To be honest I just hoped they didn’t score [after the miss] so we didn’t go to penalties again. I don’t think I have got forward [like that] in ten years, [it was a] great pass from Jarrod [Bowen] and I maybe should’ve let it ran and taken it on my left but poor finish ‘keeper made a good save, make of it what you want.”
Despite the miss, Noble was thrilled with the evening and in particular for the Hammers supporters who were vociferous in their support throughout.
Mark Noble said: “For our travelling fans to come up and see us win at Old Trafford, think the last time I came here and won I was playing with Carlos Tevez I don’t know 14 years ago so it’s a pretty special win for us.”
Following the win at Old Trafford West Ham went into the 4th Round Carabao Cup draw and will face a home clash with current holders Manchester City on either October 26 or 27.
