Karl Darlow felt that Newcastle United deserved to take a much-needed victory against Leeds United last night. The former Nottingham Forest shot-stopper pulled off a series of fine stops to help pick up a point, but after returning from the Covid list, he believes it should have been more. Darlow repeated his heroics of last autumn after keeping Leeds at bay as they churned out 21 goal attempts.
Karl Darlow said: “The first half was probably them. We did well to get the goal at the end of the first half. It’s something we have worked on. We haven’t been finishing halves well, first and second halves. In the second half it was a completely different game, I felt like we dominated the second half and maybe could even won it.”
Newcastle earned their point thanks to Allan Saint-Maximin’s wonderfully crafted equaliser as he beat three men before slamming home. It was a moment that gave fans hope but they were unable to push on for the winner. Speaking about Saint-Maximin,
Karl Darlow said: “He is a massive asset, he is capable of everything and anything. You just have to watch him, the fans adore him for bringing such a positive mentality. He is not afraid to try things and he is scoring goals.”
