Newcastle United prodigy Rodrigo Vilca has expressed his excitement at being given a chance to demonstrate his ability after joining Doncaster Rovers on loan. The 22-year-old will remain with the League One side until January, having failed to break into the first-team at St James’ Park since arriving from Peruvian outfit Deportivo Municipal last year. He saw his first season with the club blighted by injury but has since recovered and started all three of the opening league games for Newcastle’s U-23s.
Rodrigo Vilca said: “I’m really excited to come to Doncaster and have a chance to show what I can do in England. I feel since joining Newcastle I have improved a lot already so this is the next step for me. I have heard a lot of positive things about the club and the players here and I am looking forward to meeting my team mates.”
Vilca’s lack of experience and the fact he had only played in Peru meant a deal for the young midfielder was always a gamble for Newcastle, but the reported six-figure sum paid to prise him from his home said a lot about how highly Steve Nickson rated him.
