Brendan Rodgers has said Leicester City “had to be fair” to Kamal Sowah in letting the young talent leave for Club Brugge. Asked if it was a difficult decision to let Sowah go,
Brendan Rodgers said: “You have to be fair to the player. He did great in Belgium and there was a great market there for him, which shows you by the number that they’ve paid for him, that he’s seen as a talent. Just you have to assess it. He wasn’t going to play for us, we’ve got players ahead of him in his position, and he’s at the stage in his career where he wanted to continue progressing. Where he’s come from, it’s an amazing story, how well the boy has done. He was fantastic over the course of pre-season, a really humble man who worked hard, played the pre-season games and now gets the chance to continue his career. We wish him all the very best.”
Sowah initially returned to City at the end of last season, after the league campaign in Belgium concluded, so that Rodgers and his staff could take a look at him. Then he featured in the pre-season games against Burton, Wycombe, and QPR. But while he did not get to experience life in Leicester for long, Sowah is thankful for his time on the club’s books.
Brendan Rodgers said: “I want to thank my team, the staff and the fans at Leicester City for supporting my development in the past. I wish the club good luck for this season and the future. I hope that one day our paths will cross again.”
